SAVE intends to discontinue an information collection initiative launched in September 2020 following a May 23, 2019 presidential memorandum. Feb. 2, 2021, President Biden issued Executive Order 14012, Restoring Faith in Our Legal Immigration Systems and Strengthening Integration and Inclusion Efforts for New Americans, revoking the May 23, 2019 memo. SAVE is providing affected user agencies notice that it intends to discontinue its information collection entitled “Sponsor Deeming and Agency Reimbursement” effective June 18, 2021.

SAVE is making case management easier through case search enhancements.

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas extended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Syria and re-designated Syria for TPS for 18 months, from March 31, 2021, through Sept. 30, 2022. Current beneficiaries who want to maintain their status must re-register March 19, 2021, through May 18, 2021. Syrian nationals and individuals having no nationality who last habitually resided in Syria may submit an initial registration application under the re-designation for TPS for Syria and apply for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) between March 19, 2021, and Sept. 15, 2021.

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas has designated Venezuela for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 18 months, effective March 9, 2021, through Sept. 9, 2022. Venezuelan nationals and individuals having no nationality who last habitually resided in Venezuela may submit an initial registration application under the Venezuela TPS designation during the 180-day registration period that begins March 9, 2021, and ends on Sept. 5, 2021, and apply for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD).

Under the president’s direction, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will reinstate Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) for Liberians and will provide for continued work authorization through June 30, 2022. Accordingly, DHS automatically extends DED-related Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) with a printed expiration date of March 30, 2020, or Jan. 10, 2021, and a Category Code of A-11 through June 30, 2022.

On May 14, 2021, USCIS will dispose of SAVE records that are more than 10 years old, which are those dated on or before Dec. 31, 2010. SAVE users have until May 10, 2021, to download case information from the Historic Records Report if they want to retain information about these SAVE cases. USCIS is replacing the currently issued sticker that extends the validity of a Form I-551, Permanent Resident Card (also known as a Green Card), with a revised Form I-797, Notice of Action, receipt notice of Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card. Starting Jan. 6, 2021, USCIS will begin issuing the revised notice which will extend the validity of a Green Card for 12 months from the “Card Expires” date on the front of the Green Card. An expired Green Card, together with a notice extending its validity, is equivalent to a valid, unexpired Green Card that establishes identity and is evidence of lawful status for purposes of the REAL ID regulation at 6 CFR 37.11(c) and (g). Whenever a license or benefit applicant presents a Green Card, user agencies can verify an applicant’s Lawful Permanent Resident status by submitting a SAVE case with the applicant’s name, date of birth, and Alien number (A-number) from the Green Card they present.

SAVE can verify when a federal, state, or local government benefit or license applicant has received deferred action under Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). These applicants may present an unexpired Form I-766, Employment Authorization Document (EAD) in combination with an I-797 Extension Notice issued by USCIS showing that their deferred action has been extended for one year. This unexpired EAD must contain a Category code of C33 and be issued on or after July 28, 2020. SAVE user agencies may need to institute additional verification in these situations.
