DHS Extends TPS for Syria and Re-Designates Syria for TPS for 18 Months, Automatically Extends EADs Through Sept. 27, 2021
Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas extended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Syria and re-designated Syria for TPS for 18 months, from March 31, 2021, through Sept. 30, 2022. Current beneficiaries who want to maintain their status must re-register March 19, 2021, through May 18, 2021. Syrian nationals and individuals having no nationality who last habitually resided in Syria may submit an initial registration application under the re-designation for TPS for Syria and apply for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) between March 19, 2021, and Sept. 15, 2021.
Given the time frames for processing TPS re-registration applications, USCIS has automatically extended the validity of certain EADs issued under the TPS designation for Syria through Sept. 27, 2021.
TPS beneficiaries presenting an EAD referenced in this Federal Register notice do not need to show any other document, such as an I-797C Notice of Action, to prove that they qualify for this extension. SAVE will be able to verify the continuation of an applicant’s TPS and employment authorization using their recent TPS-related document along with their A-Number or I-94 number. You may need to perform additional verification steps to confirm the applicant’s TPS. For more information regarding Syria’s TPS designation and re-designation, please refer to the FRN, dated March 19, 2021.
