DHS Secretary Implements Deferred Enforced Departure for Hong Kong
On Aug. 5, 2021, President Biden issued a memo to Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas directing him to implement Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) and employment authorization for certain Hong Kong residents through Feb. 5, 2023. Once a covered individual receives a DED EAD with a Category Code of A11, they may present it to show they are authorized to work and that they are eligible for certain benefits.
When applying for a Federal, state, or local government benefit, individuals will need to provide documentation to show they are covered under DED for Hong Kong. Individuals may provide their new DED EAD with an A11 category code to show they are covered under DED for Hong Kong. SAVE will be able to verify an individual’s DED by using information from the individual’s DED EAD.
For more information regarding DED for Hong Kong, please refer to Federal Register Notice dated Oct. 21, 2021.
