SAVE Verification Process Fact Sheet
Generally, the verification process can take up to three steps:
-
Initial Verification
To conduct a SAVE verification, the user must select the benefit the applicant is seeking and provide their:
- Numeric identifier (A-Number, SEVIS ID number, unexpired foreign passport number or I-94 Number);
- First and last name; and
- Date of birth
SAVE returns a response providing the applicant's "Current Status" or prompts the user to "Institute Additional Verification" (IAV) if SAVE needs additional information to process the case.
-
Institute Additional Verification (IAV)
When SAVE provides an IAV as an initial response, the user must provide the information requested and has the option to scan and upload copies of the applicant's documents.
-
Third Step
If SAVE needs to review a copy of the applicant's immigration document to issue a verification response, they request a third-level review. Users must Scan and Upload the document to SAVE electronically.
Things to remember:
- SAVE is not a source system database.
- SAVE provides point-in-time information that could change.
- SAVE has minimum requirements to successfully verify documents.
- Users should enter information from the applicant’s most recently-issued immigration document.
- Benefit applicants can follow the progress of their case online through SAVE CaseCheck at uscis.gov/save/casecheck.
