Earl G. Harrison
Commissioner of Immigration and Naturalization, July 20, 1942 - July 20, 1944
Born in Philadelphia, April 27, 1899, Earl Harrison became an accomplished private attorney and educator at the University of Pennsylvania. His career with the federal government began as Director of Alien Registration within the Department of Justice from 1940 to 1941. Harrison then became Special Assistant to the Attorney General, and served as Commissioner of Immigration and Naturalization Service from 1942 to 1944. After leaving INS, Harrison was a member of the Intergovernmental Committee on Refugees until 1946 and was active in the National Committee on Post War Immigration Policy. Harrison died July 28, 1955, and is buried in Media, PA.
