Michael Valverde, Associate Director Field Operations Directorate
Experience and Achievements
Michael Valverde was selected as the associate director of the Field Operations Directorate (FOD) starting April 24, 2022. Valverde has been the acting associate director of FOD since Jan. 20, 2021. He previously served as the deputy associate director of FOD from Sept. 2015 to Jan. 2020.
Valverde has served as a federal immigration professional since 1997. His federal career began as a Presidential Management Intern with the Immigration and Naturalization Service’s Office of Adjudications. He has served in various roles and offices, including the Administrative Appeals Office, the INS Office of Congressional Relations and the International Operations Division. He has developed policy and procedures and adjudicated cases for employment and family-based immigration benefits, refugee benefits, Temporary Protected Status and other immigration benefits. Prior to joining Field Operations, Valverde served in various leadership roles in the Refugee, Asylum and International Operations Directorate, including serving as the first Senior Liaison Officer to the United Kingdom Border Agency in London, England.
Education
Valverde was the valedictorian of his legacy INS BASIC class, attended the Senior Executive Fellows Program at Harvard University and graduated from the DHS SES Candidate Development Program. He has bachelor’s degrees in Latin American studies and government from the College of William and Mary and a master’s degree in international relations from the University of Delaware.
