Angela Y. Washington, Chief, Office of Privacy
Angela Washington was selected as the chief for the Office of Privacy on Aug. 29, 2021. Prior to her selection, she was acting chief for the Office of Privacy since Jan. 3, 2021.
Experience and Achievements
She previously served as the deputy chief for the Office of Privacy. Washington is committed to ensuring USCIS complies with federal privacy laws, regulations, rules, and policies, and sustains privacy protections and the transparency of USCIS’ operations.
Washington has led several privacy and FOIA local government agencies. She managed privacy and FOIA programs for several offices of the District of Columbia Government, including the office of the General Counsel, the office Chief Financial Officer, the office of Tax and Revenue, the Housing and Community Development unit, and the Executive Office of the Fire Chief. Her corporate experience includes collaborative management with Black Entertainment Television (BET).
Washington is also a member of the Department of Justice American Society of Access Professionals (ASAP) for FOIA Professionals, National Legal Association, Certified Legal Association, International Association of Privacy Professionals, and Honor Society.
Education
She earned a bachelor of science in legal studies, master of science in management, and MBA degree from University of Maryland, and law degree, advanced law degree (LL.M.) in compliance/specialization in taxation – graduated with honors and distinction, Summa Cum Laude from Thomas Jefferson School of Law. She also earned several certifications in paralegal and legal studies, graduate certification in Management, and graduate certification in Criminal Justice.
