USCIS to Naturalize 100 New Citizens at Historic Surrogate’s Court

 Mayor Bill de Blasio to Welcome New Americans at Special Citizenship Day Ceremony

NEW YORK- U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will conduct a ceremony for 100 people at historic Surrogate’s Court, adjoining City Hall on Sept. 17. USCIS New York Director Phyllis Coven will administer the Oath of Allegiance and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio will offer remarks.

The 100 citizenship candidates originate from the following 34 countries: Argentina Australia, Bangladesh, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, China, Congo, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, France, Germany, Ghana, Guinea, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mali, Mexico, Niger, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Republic of Serbia, Romania, Russia, Senegal, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, and Vietnam.

This ceremony is part of USCIS’s annual celebration of Constitution Day and Citizenship Day.  This year, USCIS will welcome more than 36,000 new citizens during more than 200 naturalization ceremonies from Sept. 17 to Sept. 23.  The New York/New Jersey area will host four naturalization ceremonies on September 17^th, at landmark venues: Liberty State Park, Rufus King Manor, the New-York Historical Society, and this ceremony at Surrogate’s Court. 

USCIS invites new citizens, their families and friends to share their experiences from the ceremonies via social media using the hashtag #newUScitizen.
