USCIS ‘in Residence’ Programs
USCIS partners with private sector experts to devise innovative solutions to some of the nation’s tough immigration challenges. Through the DHS Loaned Executive Program, USCIS offers top professionals from various fields the opportunity to share their expertise and partner with USCIS immigration experts to solve problems, improve processes, and fully realize the mission of the agency.
Loaned executives are recruited through public notices on USAJobs.gov and undergo a thorough vetting process. Loaned executives can serve anywhere from a period of three months to a maximum of one year. The program allows USCIS to gain information and deeper understanding of particular industries it serves. This in turn will help USCIS ensure that current practices are serving these communities as the law intended and reflect their business realities.
USCIS has launched two initiatives through the Loaned Executive Program so far:
- Executives in Residence – kicking off in 2014, this initiative enables USCIS to better understand current business realities and equip officers with relevant information to inform and align their adjudications with industry realities in the arts and entertainment, and nursing fields.
- Entrepreneurs in Residence – brought USCIS and private-sector startup expertise together to help provide immigrant entrepreneurs with pathways that are clear, consistent, and aligned with modern business environments. This program concluded in May 2013.
