USCIS California Service Center: Academic Community Engagement
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) California Service Center (CSC) invited interested individuals, including members of the academic community, to participate in an all-day stakeholder engagement on Monday, August 12, 2013 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Pacific).
This engagement provided an opportunity for stakeholders to meet with USCIS to discuss student and academic-related immigration issues. Representatives from NAFSA: Association of International Educators, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Student and Exchange Visitor Program (ICE SEVP), and various designated school officials (DSOs) were present to share information and answer questions. Topics for discussion included:
- I-129, Petition for Nonimmigrant Worker
- I-765, Application for Employment Authorization
- I-539, Application to Change or Extend Nonimmigrant Status
- Immigration trends in higher education
Following the engagement, USCIS offered tours of the California Service Center to interested participants.
