Message from USCIS Director Alejandro Mayorkas: Proposed Fee Waiver Form
Dear Friends,
We are proud to have just published in the Federal Register our proposed fee waiver form, the first one ever for our agency. Our goal in introducing this form is to provide clarity and consistency in our efforts to provide relief for financially disadvantaged individuals seeking immigration benefits. Our proposed fee waiver form – Form I-912, Request for Individual Fee Waiver – is now published in the Federal Register. We encourage you to comment on our proposed form. The comment period closes September 13, 2010.
Our proposed fee waiver form is the direct result of our meetings and conversations with you. In our engagements over the past months, you expressed concerns that the absence of a standardized fee waiver form led to confusion about the criteria that had to be met and the adjudication standards. In response, we worked with you to develop the form we now have proposed. It is vitally important that we assist the disadvantaged in accessing immigration benefits for which they qualify.
Thank you for partnering with us.
Alejandro N. Mayorkas
Director
