Media Advisory: July 4th - 46 to become New US Citizens Aboard the Battleship New Jersey
Camden, N.J. — U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Mount Laurel Field Office Director, Nieves Cardinale, will administer the Oath of Allegiance to America’s newest citizens during a special naturalization ceremony on board the historic Battleship New Jersey on Saturday, July 4 at 10 a.m.
USCIS Newark District Director, Dr. John Thompson, will welcome the citizenship candidates and guests. After the Oath of Allegiance U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross, who represents New Jersey’s 1st Congressional District, will deliver the keynote address to the new Americans.
The 46 citizenship candidates include five military members (representing the U.S. Navy, Army, and Marines). They originate from the following 28 countries: Afghanistan, Brazil, China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, France, Georgia, Germany, Ghana, Grenada, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, Philippines, Poland, Romania, Russia, Sierra Leone, Taiwan, Trinidad and Tobago, United Kingdom, and Vietnam.
This ceremony is part of USCIS’ annual Independence Day celebration. This year, USCIS celebrates our nation’s 239th birthday by welcoming more than 4,000 new U.S. citizens in more than 50 naturalization ceremonies across the country from July 1 through July 4.
USCIS is asking new citizens and their families and friends to share their experience and photos from their ceremonies via social media using the hashtag #newUScitizen.
