Media Advisory: Federal Task Force to Release Report Calling for an Americanization Movement for the 21st Century Recommendations to President Bush Include Immigrant Integration
Recognizing immigration is a federal responsibility, but integration occurs in communities, the Task Force finds that successful integration involves a message of inclusion that emphasizes American civic principles and welcomes people from all backgrounds to fully become American.
Members of the Task Force will discuss their recommendations, including launching a national campaign to strengthen immigrant integration into American civic culture. The Task Force was guided by two themes that have defined America’s immigration experience: First: Diversity makes America strong, but unity keeps America successful. Second: Citizenship is an identity and not simply a benefit.
The Task Force on New Americans is an interagency initiative, led by the Department of Homeland Security, to help immigrants learn English, embrace the common core of American civic culture, and fully become American.
