DHS Extends Temporary Protected Status Designation for West African Countries for 6 Months

The Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS) has extended the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone for an additional 6 months, effective May 22, 2016 through Nov. 21, 2016. The extension allows current TPS beneficiaries of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone to re-register for TPS in accordance with the Federal Register notice. DHS has also automatically extended the validity of Employment Authorization Documents of these beneficiaries for six months, through Nov. 21, 2016.
Employers should be aware that they may have employees from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone whose employment authorization has been extended by this designation. Please refer to the Temporary Protected Status and Deferred Enforced Departure page on I-9 Central for more information on completing or correcting Form I-9 or reverifying TPS beneficiaries.
