An Overview of Temporary Protected Status (TPS)
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) invited you to participate in a teleconference regarding Temporary Protected Status (TPS) on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. EDT.
The Secretary of Homeland Security may designate a foreign country for TPS when conditions in that country temporarily prevent its nationals from returning safely or, in certain circumstances, when the country cannot adequately handle the return of its nationals. Once a foreign country has been designated for TPS, USCIS may grant TPS to eligible nationals of that country who are already in the United States.
During this engagement, USCIS subject matter experts provided background information, including countries that are currently designated for TPS and eligibility requirements. USCIS officials were available to answer questions.
